Chorkie
Do you know what a Chorkie is? As I type, I have one curled up beside me keeping warm in a fleece blanket. This particular chorkie is named Layla and she belongs to our daughter, Lucy. Because we work at home, we are her dog-sitters when Lucy travels. Layla is the sweetest creature; a small bundle bursting with life energy! A chorkie is a small dog - a mixed breed of chihuahua and yorkshire terrier.
I’ve never been a small dog person. I’m more of the yellow lab, golden retriever type. But there’s something about Layla that has encouraged me to make new maps in my mind about what makes a dog great!. I now know that chorkies are just as loyal as labs. And just as affectionate. And certainly as cute, if not more adorable! In fact, you can take a chorkie with you anywhere! She fits into a purse, and everywhere I go with Layla, people smile and want to connect with her. She cuddles up on my lap and sleeps. She jumps in the air and spins for her treats. She sleeps burrowed under the covers. She can walk on her two hind feet and she can walk on her two front feet with her hind feet up in the air. I’ve never seen a lab do that! It is a little strange putting clothes on her to keep her warm, but she’s so small it’s a necessity in cold weather.
Layla is three years old today. What does she want for her birthday? It’s quite obvious - she wants Lucy to
come back! We’ll be bringing Layla to the airport tonight when we pick up Lucy. We’ll all be glad to see Lucy, but sad to see Layla go. We’ll miss her little head popping out from the covers in the morning!

That’s an Ahhhhhh story. I’ve never seen a Chorkie but they sound great. A friend of mine has a Yorkie that just bounces off the walls like a Jack Russell on steroids. Anyway, I know they miss their best friend and will be very happy to her return. I’m sure you did a fantastic job while Lucy was away. Great post.

I hear you! I always thought that tiny dogs would be hyper like a Jack Russell - yappy & totally wound up! But not Layla…she’s a real sweetheart!

Hi I adopted a 10 month old male Chorkie in Nov 2009 A wonderful family member. He came not housebroken but only took a couple of days. He acts like he was abused. This is my second rescue dog. He has taken his time getting close slowly to each of us. He always makes sure he jumps on the bed and gives his goodnight to my son. If anything ever happened to him he surely would be missed. More people should give small dogs a chance maybe there wouldn’t be so many larger dogs at the animal shelter. People just need to watch them closer when they are learning to signal you to go out. They are people pleasers so they want to do 100′/, right.

The Chorkie you adopted was so lucky to find you! Rescue dogs are slow to warm up but then they won’t leave your side. They are so smart, you’re right! Thanks for leaving your comments, and enjoy your newest family member.

I have a chorkie that looks much like Layla. Great Dogs. Mine (Giggles loves to do tricks and cuddle up by your feet. She is the light of my live. They are heartier breeds than The Yorkie or Chi.
I have been looking around for another Chorkie.

My heart smiles as I read your comment. Layla has just learned to do tricks too - she can dance and spin around and roll over. Lucky for me, I get to take care of her for a few weeks real soon!I hope you find another Chorkie soon!
